When my Kindergarten group came in, the first thing they said when they saw the snowflakes was, "Can we count how many there are?" Well that was a no-brainer!!! So of course they counted them. We came up with 26.
Students grabbed clipboards and pencils and got right to work counting! They had a blast with this. They were comparing their numbers with each other and figuring out how to write the number.
This was the best lesson that I never even planned for. Sometimes you just have to go with it and what comes out of it is usually amazing! They were so engaged with their counting and wanted to make sure they counted every snowflake. By the time we were done we had counted to 26, written numbers to 26 and knew the amount of snowflakes hanging on the ceiling was 26.
