Figure Me Out...

In this next dazzling lesson from Kentucky Numeracy Project (KNP) we have, Figure Me Out...  In this activity students have seven expression cards each and they turn the cards over and find the answer.  It may be a missing addend or subtrahend.

On the student's paper are some blanks to solve.  The blanks are choices to fill in answers to how many pets, how old, how many places visited, etc.  The answer to the expression will give them a number they can use to fill in one of the blanks.  

 

It is sort of like mad libs for math ;).  They all filled in their sheet and we shared out what category they put their numbers in.
